Iron & Steel Plant of Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.
Brief Introduction:
Shougang Jingtang iron and steel plant, by overall design, is the best iron and steel plant project at present in China with the largest scale of one-time construction, most complete operation system, highest level of equipment, most advanced technology, most effective process flow, optimized result of energy-saving and emission reduction and environmental protection. Phase 1 construction scale is 9.70MTPA of steel to provide high-end prime plate products such as hot rolled, cold rolled, hot galvanized and color coated plate to industries like automobile, machinery, electricity, home appliance, architecture and structure and mechanical manufacture.
Beijing Shougang International Engineering Technology Company Ltd.(BSIET), as the overall design unit for Jingtang Project, has finished pre-project works like strategic project demonstration, site selection, planning, compilation of general construction proposal, fulfillment of inner and outer conditions and coordination of inter-relationship, the company completed design work for 500m2 sintering machine, 4.00MTPA straight grate pelletizing plant, 5500m3 BF, 1580mm and 2250mm hot rolling mills and utilities for the whole plant in addition to design organization and optimization of proposal, the amount of design takes 60% of total project design work.
Since Jingtang put into production, the production process has been stable and all index reached design requirements in short time, reflecting the new mode of industrialization featuring”high technology content, good economical benefits, low energy consumption, less air pollution, good utilization of human resources”.
Main Working Contents:
1.Main Working Contents:
The coking system is equipped with two batteries of four 7.63m high coke ovens with 70 coking chambers each, and matched with two 260t/h CDQs.
This system adopted 14 advanced technologies such as twin flue, sectional heating, off gas circulating, compound combustion, single gas collecting pipe, double suction pipe extra large coke oven, individual chamber pressure control system – PROven, vacuum potassium carbonate desulphurization, tar ammonia super-centrifugal separation and coke oven machine with high automation level.
Comparing 7.63m coke oven with 6.0m coke oven, output of single chamber is increased by 60%, coke strength M40 is increased by 5%, and smoke-less coal charging is realized, with advantages of increased production rate, improved coke performance, lowered environmental pollution and reduced land occupancy.
2.Sintering System
The sintering system is matched with 2 x 500m2 sintering machnes and 2 x 580m2 annual coolers.
This system adopts 12 advanced technologies such as low temperature and thick material layer sintering, sintering expert intelligent operation system, fume desulphurization and purification, heat recovery from sinter cooling, annular cooler sized distribution and dense phase dust conveying.
Utilization factor of the sintering machine in this project exceeded 1.30t/(m2.h), sinter grade, tumbler strength and power and medium consumption have reached advanced level.
3.Pellet System
Pelletizing system is equipped with one 504m2 straight grate indurating production line (capacity 4.00MTPA).
This system adopts 10 advanced technologies such as blended solid fuel, shortest screening and distribution process flow, straight grate with wide tilting pallet, 6m large windbox and new sealing. This straight grate indurating machine satisfied the requirement of pelletizing process with hematite; pellet quality and consumption of power and medium have reached advanced level.
4.Iron Making System
The iron making system is equipped with two 5500m3 BFs.
This system adopts 68 advanced technologies such as bell-less top, BF high efficiency long campaign comprehensive technology, BSK high blast temperature top combustion hot blast stove, full dry gas dedusting and environment friendly slag treatment.
This BF utilization factor is 2.3t/(m3), coal injection ratio 200kg/t HM (target 250kg/t HM), charged coke ratio 290kg/t hot metal, hot blast temperature 1300℃, and one campaign 25 years.
5.Steel Making System
The steel making system is equipped with two 300t dephosphurizing converters, three 300t decarbonizing converters, two multi-functions RHs and one duplex LF (with another one reserved).
This system adopts 18 advanced technologies such as interfacing technology for compact process of “one ladle to the end” from BF to converter, KR desulphurization in hot metal ladle, smelting process of “2+3” three-all-removal with highly matched dephosphrizing, desiliconizing converter and decarboning converter, duplex multi-function RH vacuum refining and so on.
Total content of [S], [P], [H], [N], [O] in molten steel is lowered to below 45PPm, average tap to tap time of converter is controlled below 30 min.. Hot metal is 100% pretreated, molten steel is 100% refined.
6.CCM System
The continuous casting system is equipped with two 2150mm slab CCMs, two 1650mm slab CCMs.
This system adopts 31 advanced technologies such as electromagnetic control of mould, automatic control of mould level, strand dynamic soft reduction, and so on.
This high efficient multi-product slab CCM has the biggest designed capacity (max. 3.60MTPA for single caster) for similar caster (strand thickness and width) in China, the highest withdrawing speed (2.3m/min.) and the longest metallurgical length (45m).
7.Hot Rolling System
Hot rolling system is equipped with one 2250mm rolling mill and one 1580 rolling mill.
This system adopts 20 advanced technologies such as sizing press, automatic width, thickness, profile control, controlled rolling and controlled cooling system, on-line surface inspection device, prediction system for steel structure and property, and so on.
Max. tensile strength of 2250mm hot rolling is 1200Mpa, thickness of hot rolled coil is 1.2-25.4mm.
8.Cold Rolling System
Cold rolling system is equipped with one 2230mm cold strip mill, one 1700mm cold strip mill and one 1550mm cold strip mill.
This system adopts 46 advanced technologies such as shallow bath turbulent flow pickling technology, 5-stand 6-high tandem mill, Carrousel coiler, product quality inspection and control system for continuous annealing and galvanizing unit, and so on.
Thickness of cold rolled coil and coated coil is 0.2-2.5mm, with width 700-2080mm.
Main Design Features:
1.Large Equipment, Advanced Technology
A series of large equipment which are the largest in China and a few in the world were adopted, including: 7.63m high coke oven; 260t/h CDQ, 500m2 sintering machine, 5500m3 blast furnace; 300t converter, 2150mm slab CCM, 2250mm hot strip mill, 2230mm cold rolling strip mill, forming a high efficient and low cost production system.
This project densely adopted more than 220 advanced technologies both at home and abroad, utilizing new process, new technology, new equipment and new material for system integration and showing a new level of development in 21 century iron and steel industry.
2.Independent Innovation, High Localization
This project takes the independent innovation way of “based on initial innovation, promote integrated innovation and intensify re-innovation by introduction and digestion”. Under the premise to ensure advanced technology, the percentage of equipment localization and manufacture level of metallurgical equipment are promoted to the maximum. Localization rate of equipment took more than 90% of total weight and more than 61% of total value.。
3.Compact Arrangement, Optimized Process Flow
To the target of forming a new generation of iron and steel making process, compact, high efficient, smooth, aesthetic general layout has been realized to the maximum, “three flow in one” is realized for material flow, energy flow and information flow, and no return, no roundabout, no landing and no repeating is realized for material transportation between procedures.
Raw material yard and product warehouse is closely arranged to wharf, realizing receiving, unloading and transferring with shortest distance for raw material and product; transportation distance from BF to steel making is only 900m; zero distance interface between steel making and hot rolling is realized; 1580mm hot rolling product warehouse is arranged closely to 1700mm cold rolling raw material warehouse, realizing compact layout; the occupied land area per ton of steel is 0.9m2, which reached international advanced level.
4.Circulating Economy, Friendly Environment
This project realized circulation of material and energy both inside and outside the enterprise. Inside, residual heat, pressure and gas, waste water, ferro-material and solid waste in production process are fully utilized, basically realizing zero emission of waste water and solid waste, 100% recovery of ferro-element resources, and every techno-economic indices reached international advanced level. Outside, every year, 18 million ton of brine can be provided for salt-making, 3.3 million ton of BF granulated slag, converter steel slag and fly ash can be provided for construction; at the same time, huge amount of social rejects like waste plastic are recovered, treated and disposed.

Main Working Contents:
The project is designed and constructed as per the principle of “general plan, step execution”. The annual billet output is 4.50MTPA, hot rolled coil of 4.00MTPA. The main production system includes: raw material yard, iron making system, steel making, lime kiln system, rolling system, power generation system, air separation system, utility facilities. The steel grades to be produced mainly include low carbon steel, quality carbon structure steel, high strength low alloy steel, deep-drawing steel, automobile steel, boiler and pressure vessel steel, shipbuilding plate, pipeline steel, two-phase steel and multiphase steel, and IF steel.
Main Design Features:
The project realize the requirements of metallurgical demonstration plant as “energy saving and environmental protection, recycling economy, clean and high efficiency”. Since operation started in Oct. 2004, the production has been always stable and reliable, and the production technoeconomic indexes are overall increased, making obvious economical, social, and environmental benefits. The features are as follows:
1、As per the theory of metallurgical system engineering, metallurgical process engineering, the general principle of dynamic order and accurate control of metallurgical production procedures are reflected, adopting optimized process procedures and intact production layout.
2、Adopting guiding ideology of “self relying with integration and optimization”, dozens of advanced, reliable, practical new technology, process, equipment and material are applied with research development and equipment integration. And the overall equipment technology level is improved.
3、The target is to realize advanced level of technology and good economical benefits, meet the technical requirements of big scale steel plant development at home and abroad, as well as the industry policy in China, develop recycling economy, fulfil development principle of “energy saving and consumption reducing, clean production”, realize the highly harmonious development between human and nature, enterprises and society.
Main Technical Innovations:
1、Direct charging process with integrated and innovated blast furnace without weighing station.
2、Innovation of large BF with bell-less top system and longevity material distribution chute system, sealed chute water cooling system, PC module control material distribution system.
3、A series of BF integrated technology with longevity and high efficiency is developed, adopting digital simulation engineering of BF with service life as long as 15 years.
4、Round casthouse design is optimized, improving mechanical level of cast house.
5、High temperature long-life technology is integrated and innovated.
6、Screw-slag granulation process is optimized.
7、Intact long distance BF coal injection technique is innovated.
8、8. Gas full dry dedusting technology for large BF is innovated.
9、Large steel-making equipment and technology is innovated and developed. A series of steel making equipment is localized, self developed, and integrated, with example of 210t large converter equipment.
10、Sublance automatic steel making technology is developed jointly, and double work position LF furnace, multi-function RH refining device and slab casting machine are optimized and integrated with international leading level, realizing full automatic steel making, full automatic casting, no duty casting platform, with production quality reaching or get close to international advance level.
11、Multi-function scrap preparation and transportation process and equipment is integrated and innovated.
12、The 2160mm hot roll mill successfully integrate and apply reversible R1, R2 roll mill, hot coil box technology with heat insulation device. The stability of finish roll mill is improved and rolling accuracy is increased, also with decreased main drive loading capacity of finishing mill, shortened rolling length, and increased metal yield , decreased cooling water consumption, improved surface quality of strip.
13、The first large hot rolling box equipment foundation is designed by BSIET in China, solving underground structure calculation and design problem of the super large concrete, building a complete calculation module, effectively solving the leakage problem of underground concrete structure, realizing control of equipment foundation total settlement and differential settlement.

Steel Complex Project of Shouqin Metal Material Co., Ltd.
Main Working Contents:
The project is developed with one planning and two phases. The scale of production is 2.60MTPA of qualified hot metal, 2.40MTPA of slab, 1.80MTPA of wide and thick plate. The main production system includes: raw material yard, sintering system, iron making system, steel making, lime kiln system, rolling system, power generation system, air separation system, utility facilities, environmental protection and recycling economy system. Products are mainly ship plate, ocean plate, pipeline plate and bridge plate, and also are automobile plate, pressure vessel plate and boiler plate.
Main Design Features:
Shouqin Steel Plant is prime plate base with 21 century international leading level, recycling economy, self innovation demonstration base featuring”high technology content, good economical benefits, low resource consumption, less air pollution, good utilization of human resource ” The Phase I is put into production in Jun. of 2004, with stable operation, economical benefits, environmental protection and social benefits. The main technoeconomic indexes have reached the international advanced level. The features are as follows:
1、Traditional long process layout is abandoned, with short process and intact layout arrangement initiated, reflecting accurate process structure of dynamic order of new generation of iron and steel plant, and features of general layout of modern iron and steel plant.
2、Dozens of innovated, integrated process technology with international leading level is created, forging elite project of iron and steel plant.
3、All the energy saving, and consumption decreasing, and recycling economy reflects features of new generation of iron and steel plant. The land resource, water resource is 2/3 of average consumption amount of national level. The energy consumption is decreased by 30% compared with national average level. Waste heat and energy is utilized and there is “zero discharge” of sewage and solid wastes. Techno-economic index of energy consumption, water&material consumption per ton of steel reaches international advanced level.
4、The management system after the project put into production will adopt digital type modern management approach of ERP with computer system.
Main Technical Innovations:
1. “Full enclosure internet raw material yard”,”integrated full enclosure multi-function material yard”, “one-stop multi-function full enclosure raw material collecting and distributing centre”, all those process totally avoid disorganized emission of dusts, reduce land occupation area, decrease hundreds of millions of investment and production&operation cost, with energy &material saving effect and environment protection.
2. “Intact sintering process system” could effectively reduce energy consumption, air pollution and construction & production cost.
3. “Large BF gas all dry low pressure pulse bag dedusting and all dry gas waste pressure power generation” process is first time applied on domestic large BF, which marks a big step in energy saving, environment protection of large BF.
4. “Combustion air preheating and high wind temperature top combustion hot blast stove without combustion chamber” technology.
5. “Screw-slag granulation process” process
6. “Sectional control of all soft cooling water for body of BF” technology.
7. “On-line desulphurizing and slag scrapping integration” technology.
8. “Converter all dry steam sealing” technology.
9. “Argon injection for mixing process in ladle” technology.
10. “Multi-function hot metal reladle”, desulphurizing & slag scrapping transportation patent, as well as hot metal reladle station, and desulphurizing station integrated process, could reduce time for hot metal reladle and desulphurizing & slag scrapping time, reduce temperature drop and iron loss, decrease land occupation area.
11. “Integrated water supply system” process, realize recycling ratio of water above 97%, 2.11m3 of fresh water consumption per ton of steel. All waste water will be recycled after treatment, basically realizing “zero emission” of waste water, which is leading level around the world.
12. “Iron and Steel Circulation Water Source Heating Pump AC System” technology.
13. More than 20 international leading technology are innovated and more than 10 patented scientific results have been verified by the province and ministry.

Newly-built Project of Technical Innovation in 10th-Five Year Plan for Jiangsu Huaigang Group
Main engineering scope includes: raw material yard, sintering plant, iron making plant, steel making plant, casting plant, and matched utility facilities. The construction scale is 1.00MTPA. The product mix is mainly quality carbon steel, low alloy steel, and cold heading steel.
Engineering of the project is started at end of 2002 and the plant is put into production at end of 2003. The operation status has been good and high appreciation from the owner is awarded to BSIET.
Iron and Steel Plant of Xuangang (8,000,000t/a) of Hebei Iron and Steel Group
Brief introduction:
Xuangang Company of Hebei Iron and Steel Group is located in District Xuanhua, Zhangjiakou, Hebei. During 2010-2012, the production capacity is expanded from 6.00MTPA to 8.00MTPA through giving up disadvantageous technology and upgrading the equipment.
